How will I find the time for learning?
I’m getting ready to welcome learners for a 6 week course and the main question coming up time and time again is… where will I find the time?
I’m a graduate of this course and the question takes me back to when I signed up — in the summer of 2020 trying to juggle my newly-online paid role and my unexpected full-time job as homeschooler. I can’t remember a time I felt more overwhelmed. I usually lean far too heavily into productivity literature about how to maximise time but there was no option for being intentional — every day was a battle.
But I signed up. At the time it felt like a gamble, but I counted on the self-directed nature of the course — and I’m so glad I did.
How on earth would I find the time?
- I watched the short video while washing up
- I dialed into live meets while my son played robots, and I saw in the backgrounds of the other participants juggling kids and their notebooks too
- I saved recommended youtube videos to come back to later
- I planned which books I would read when things were quieter
Did I “finish” the course in the 6 weeks? No. I couldn’t even tell you what “finished” looks like.
Did I have 6 weeks of amazing community that gave me a toolkit for the future? Absolutely.
